Local walkers - we need you

Are you looking to apply or learn new skills in high-level political lobbying? Do you care about local policies and plans that affect walkers? Would you like to take getting involved with the Ramblers to the next level?

The election of the new Metro Mayor is a great opportunity for us to make Greater Manchester even better for walking. We’ve been campaigning and lobbying on walking issues for many years, but now we want to step up the pace. We’re looking for new volunteers to join us to help build relationships with decision-makers, research and scrutinise local policies and promote Ramblers’ messages and campaigns.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, then please join us as a Local Organiser.

This new volunteer role is supported by staff in the Ramblers central office, in conjunction with GM&HP area. Training will be provided and expenses will be paid. Find out more info at: www.ramblers.org.uk/localorganisers or get in touch with Laura.Burley@ramblers.org.uk

Tameside Ramblers is part of the Ramblers (formerly known as the Ramblers Association) which is Britain's walking charity. To join Tameside Ramblers, you need to join the Ramblers which you can do either online at www.ramblers.org.uk/join or by phone 020 7339 8595. Whichever method you chose, be sure to select Tameside Ramblers as the group you wish to join.

Once you become a member, you can walk with any Ramblers group in the country. You will also receive the quarterly Walk magazine and you can obtain discounts at most high street outdoor gear retailers.

Non-members can join us on up to three walks before being required to join the group. Take a look at the walks programme and select a walk you like the sound of. Turn up at the designated start point in good time, and introduce yourself to the walk leader.

If you require some advice before deciding on a walk, e.g. to check how hard it is, or what you need to bring, etc, then contact the walk leader.

If getting to the start point is difficult, for example if the programme states there is no public transport and car sharing is recommended, then contact our Walks Co-ordinator who may be able to help.

ON THE WALK.  Walk participants should keep behind the walk leader.

ARE YOU FIT ENOUGH? Please make sure that you are fit enough to undertake the walk you intend to join. Please have suitable footwear and clothing for the walk you intend to join, ideally walking boots, warm clothing and waterproofs. Walk leaders may refuse to accept participants who in their opinion are inadequately equipped or unfit. When in doubt, contact the walk leader.

Dogs permitted unless stated otherwise or if there are permanent or temporary restrictions in place: owners are responsible for acquiring this information in advance of the walk. Dogs on Ramblers walks must be kept on a lead at all times.
